Lovely day in Swaledale today - our instructors are waiting on the school to arrive for Team Challenges this afternoon, climbing, abseiling, and high ropes the rest of the week!

What we learnt about ourselves when we were at Marrick.....

Children from Rothwell C of E Primary School recently visited us - here's what they learnt about themselves during their stay:
- I love working together with my friends
- I am brave
- I have great stamina
-I am not afraid of heights
- I  can do anything if I give it a try
- I can leave my family for a week

Well Done the Friends of Marrick Priory.....

The event at The Georgian Theatre in Richmond in September organised by the Friends and the Fourum raised over £800 to support the Priory's work.

A bullseye was Ryan Booths first

A balloon he almost burst

Kate W showed bravery and great courage

When she abseiled down the tower in a hurry

The food was wholesome and nutritious

Sunday dinner on Thursday was delicious

Thomas enthused and kept smiling

Even when down the tower abseiling

Elise was bright on a morning

At school she’s normally yawning

Ewan was really brave

Attempting everything in all he gave

 

 

Just in from Year 6 at Highfield Primary Leeds....

This trip has helped me prepare myself for the challenges I may face in the future
I now know what abseiling is - its cool!
Your fabulous food gave us energy for our busy days
You have boosted my confidence and made me try new things

Students in the Dale this weekend

A group of Students from Richmond School will be in the Dale this weekend completing their Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award - lets hope for good weather!

Queen Alexandra 6th Form College are here......

18 students from the college are with us for a couple of days - orienteering, canoeing as well as doing their fieldstudy work for A level Biology!

Calling schools on the Garrison..

Eighty children from Year 1 and 2 from the Garrison are with us today - abseiling and enjoying themselves on the low ropes course - 'awesome' say the kids

Open Day and Strawberry Tea

On Sunday 7th July from 3.30 to 5.30, the Friends will be hosting an open day and Strawberry Tea at the Priory.  All are welcome

A minibus shuttle service will run between Grinton and Reeth bus Stop to Marrick at regular intervals.

Complimentary refreshments will be provided and donations are welcome

And more good news......

A great thank you to the Darlington Women's Club  - they raised £1000 for our bursary fund - well done!

Great News for the Priory ....

Today we have received a cheque for £1500 from the Rothley Trust to buy camping equipment, compasses and maps - fantastic!

First Impressions!

When asked for their first impressions of the Priory when they arrived, the children said:

Very different to what I was expecting!
It's like Hogwarts!

A great evening at the Big Night Out

Last Saturday saw the Priory at the Big Night Out event at Lightwater Valley near Ripon.
Great atmosphere, lots of young people, lots of buzz!  Met old and new friends - a good night out for all!

Guess what......

We've just been granted £2500 from the People's Postcode Trust so we can run paddlesport sessions for beginners - fantastic news!

Onwards and Upwards.....

80 young people visited the Priory last week to take part in their Duke of Edinburgh award - camping and cooking outside, trekking the hills with equipment and tents in tow!  Next stop Silver and/or Gold!

'I loved the stay at Marrick - all the activities were great and the food was tasty.  I thought I would be terrible at archery but with help from my friends and the staff, I wasn't that bad - I even got a bullseye'

Students from Richmond School spent the weekend with us learning navigational skills for their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award - a good time was had by all even though it was cold and snow threatened!!!!

WE are a Winner!

Just received our cheque for £3000  from the North Yorkshire Police Why Should They fund - it will help 120 vulnerable learners from schools in Hambleton and Richmondshire spend a day with us to build their self confidence and self esteem - over 100 children already coming!!!!

Heres what the children in Brompton on Swale wrote about their visit in BOS news....

'each day we faced new physical and practical challenges such as canoeing and making our beds! We had lovely three course meals for breakfast and dinner and for lunch we had to make our own sandwiches! The instructors were ace and really encouraged us  to take part and have a go'
